a game for christmas ...

This is a memorising-out-loud game, based on the Victorian parlour game. It appeared in our local community newsletter, many of you love cats so I thought I would share it with you.

It is up to the organiser to keep the game moving at a steady pace, too many long pauses and the hesitant player is out.

The first player announces that the minister's cat is an awkward, or an awesome or an alpine cat, the next player repeats the 'a' adjective, and then adds one of his or her own, beginning with the letter 'b', and so it goes on, round the circle and through the alphabet.

Anyone who remembers that the minister's cat is an awesome, batty, cantankerous, dowdy, eclectic, fastidious, gregarious, horrendous, indigenous, jumpy, kinky, lazy, mischievious, notorious, opulent, pernicious, quiet, rowdy, sleepy, tortoiseshell, undisciplined, violent, wayward, xenophobic, yellow, zany cat - starts again (deserves a medal more like!). Anyone who does not, is out!

Hi Louise, that sounds like a fun game, we might have to try it out on Christmas day. Thanks for the tip about the comments, I was a bit worried about someone leaving a nasty comment but if I can delete them that's OK (well not OK if they leave one but OK that I can delete it!)

Do you know what that game reminds me of? Diana Gabaldon's series, Outlander (though I think the first book was named Cross Stitch in Britain). In one of the books, Claire's daughter Brianna and her friend Roger (don't want to give too much away here) are playing it. If you haven't read these books, I highly recommend them. It's painful waiting for the next book to be published though. I desperately want to know what happens to Jamie and Claire next.

Hi Louise - thank you for the award; I don't think I've ever been referred to as a tonic before!
I love the idea of playing this game especially on Christmas Day either cooking lunch, during or after wards when I'm sure I'll be pretty squiffy! The fact that you have provided all the words means I can really impress the rellies who will be amazed at my brain power even though I will be addled! Way to go!! Bring it on...........

That is one crazy cat!!!
The game sound so much fun! I think we might try it once Christmas dinner is over and we are all sprawled out in front of the tv. :o)
I'm not a big cat lover which is strange because I thought that was one of the requirments when you became a blogger! No really! Everyone seems to have a cat.
Good Game Louise (In my best Brucey voice)

DDuugh!!!
Feel so silly now, I thought there was maybe something that you had set up before!!
Of course it would be very difficult, but I didn;t want to be a party pooper!
Sorry about that, as if we all will not have enough to do on Xmas day, I had images of me rushing about in the kitchen , run to lap top, then back to the gravy, back to lap top....burn the gravy..then back again and so on...
Honestly you'd think I was needing a course in the idiots guide to the internet...
Now there's an idea for a Xmas present..LOL
warmest wishes, Beeswax

The Minister's cat is a great game. I used to teach this to my class and then it made a great dsiplay of cat paw prints with their sentence and a picture of their cat on it!
Thanks for the reminder. Sara from farmingfriends
