wendy boston bears ...

The little bear sitting on the right revolutionised the soft toy industry as it was washable! From the 1950s new codes of safety for toys emphasised hygiene, so all synthetic Wendy Boston bears were a hit, made out of nylon with a foam stuffing. The printed labels specified washing instructions and some specified a branded washing powder too, and even the ears were cut specifically to enable them to be pegged on the washing line without risk of them coming off!

Hi Louise
Are the bears from your collection?
I think I do vaguely remember these bears.. my dear mother was a dealer in antique toys, bears and dolls and I have a real soft spot for some of the older character bears..
Steiff and Merrythought are my favourites but not the repros.. can't afford the vintage but love them.

Hi, love the bears. It seems a coincidence that I've just bought a little teddy for my 2 year old grandson as he got a bit tired and bored when we were shopping. It really consoled him...bears are like that aren't they?
