my photos

granny's bonnet ...

This is a lovely photo of my paternal granny, G as she was known. It would have been taken at the same time as the photo in my earlier post showing my grandad looking somewhat like a film star, in the early 1930s. The photo was taken by Robert M Barr who resided at 69 Denmark Hill, London SE5.

Seeing as yesterday was such a beautiful day down here in the South of England, I took the opportunity to photograph a few things in beautiful blossom at the moment from around the garden and Granny's Bonnet seemed appropriate for this post, although photos of flowers usually appear over on my garden blog.

Now if granny had been wearing a bonnet in her photo, it may have looked much like the elegant item of millinery above.

What an elegant lady your grandmother was..
I love that era of photography.. the images had so much character about them..
It is rather a coincidence that I have just come in from the garden where I was admiring the Granny's Bonnet plants that have self seeded all around our garden.. I love them.
I was also making mirrors for my shop this morning with images of elegant ladies wearing hats from the 1930's.. Spooky indeed!

What a beautiful grandma you have. How glamorous those old photos are. They really knew how to pose naturally didnt they? I posted a photo of my grandma awhile back, i never tire of looking at it and thinking of her as a young woman.

Hi Louise, what a beautiful photo of Granny. I think that there is something rather special about photos taken in that era. Perhaps it was because they couldn't just snap away with a digital camera or a mobile phone that they made every picture count.
Hope all is well and that the sun continues to shine in the south, I am hoping to get a few days on the south coast this summer.
Chat soon, Liz

What a beautiful granny, those black and white photographs have such an elegance to them don't they. SNAP I was out yesterday photographing my Granny's bonnets which are identical to yours but I haven't posted them as the sun was just too bright for good photos (unlike today!). Have a good weekend
