my photo

baah ...

Happy May Day everyone!

These two must be quite used to having their photo taken, today they were enjoying basking in the lovely sunshine. Unfortunately I have missed the famous Lambing Time at Coombes Farm in West Sussex where this little woolly pair live, lambing time is between March 15th - April 20th. I did hint but the reply was, it will be too busy! Anyway I took the opportunity today to pop up and take some photos before they either get too big or end up on someone's plate!

I now have this photo as my desktop to look at when I log on. It reminds me of a recollection of mine.

A year or so back while driving through Exmoor in Devon, we stopped the car in a carpark to put the kettle on and whilst it was boiling on the stove, I stood by the fence to observe the sheep, something which surprisingly in my 43 years I haven't ever done. What I noticed is how a lamb, split up from its Mum manages to find her again amongst a field full of other lambs and sheep. Quite a commotion was going on, a bleat here and a baa there from this little lamb and the same coming from some way in the distance, well I didn't know that every lamb and its Mum must have a baa which each other recognises, because eventually the little lamb picked up on Mum's radar, and the next thing I knew it was bounding off across the field to be reunited with her. I will never forget this amazing sight which brought a tear to my eye, and a memory I shall never forget.

I needed a cuppa after that and a strong one too!

How sweet are they, but how blunt were you in stating that they will end up on somebodies plate, very true! It did make me laugh in a weird sort of way!

Happy May Day!

What a beautiful photograph. How did you get the lambs to look at the camera?

Lovely photo Louise. It's amazing how they can always find each other - I suppose we're the same - I used to recognise my littlies cries in a room full of little monsters :)

Nowadays I still recognise them but try to turn a deaf ear!!!

There is still one hour left of may day so I hope you've had a happy day and have a lovely last hour of it! I enjoyed your story about the lost lamb. A couple of years ago Mr P rescued a lamb that had pushed it's head through a wire fence. It couldn't get out due to it's little horns. It was so lovely to see it literally skipping back up the field to it's mother. Have a great bh weekend! x

Oh they're so sweet! Such a special memory of the little lost lamb and it's mum...my sister and I lived next to a farm when I was 7 and the farmer gave us a lamb to raise..we had so much fun with him...for some odd reason we named him 'Bimbo' and we fed him his milk from a large beer bottle! Happy memories here too :O)
Happy May Day to you too. Gx

Hi Louise
It is reassuring to know that they are reunited with the parent.. I saw lots of adorable little new born lambs in Devon last month and I couldn't help worrying about them being isolated from their Mum.
Just another thing to worry about..

Hi Louise, I've always been fascinated by the way the sheep can recognise their lambs. One of my favourite jobs when I was young was to feed bottles of milk to any orphaned lambs, and I love to see them cavort around the fields.

This was very touching, Louise! I think lambs/sheep have such sweet faces. I hate to think of them ending up on a plate.

Ilove this photo! I was recently at a wedding and across the street from the church was a sheep farm. It made me want to knit!
