Just being ME

Please say hello ... I love comments!

where do you blog from?

Way back in August I asked you where you blog from? With 60 votes the results were, Australia (6), Canada (9), Europe (8), UK (22), USA (11) and other (4).

Well I blog from West Sussex and I am Sussex born and bred, having during my life lived in three different villages all within close proximity around the county.

I spent my childhood and teenage years in and around the village of Angmering. The hand-coloured postcard above shows the village green and Arundel Road circa 1905. Having altered somewhat over the years, back in the early to mid seventies, this is the very hill I walked up every day to primary school, first stopping off at the small sweet shop at the bottom for a daily supply of chews, candy cigarettes and a copy of Twinkle!

For a couple of years or so, I lived in the village of Clapham. Luckily we lived on a hill, many a time in the winter my mini wouldn't start and I had to jump it on the clutch! The postcard of a watercolour above, shows the church of St Mary the Virgin circa 1845, the porch on the west wall has since been removed.

Finally the village of Lancing, credited as being the largest village in England. The postcard above shows a group of children on North Road, identified from left to right as Eadie Green, May Merriott, and Olive Cooper holding Bessie Oram. Little Croft Penfold almhouses are on the extreme right. Hand-coloured postcard circa 1910.

This is my 200th post! To celebrate I am having a giveaway, the prize being the heart-shaped card/photo holder above.

To have a chance of winning I would like you to leave a comment telling me which county in the UK you live, or if overseas which area or state you live in? It's as easy as that!

I shall look forward to drawing a winner on Sunday 30th November, so good luck to everyone, wherever you happen to be around the world.

Marie at Marie Chantal is celebrating her 200th post too!

Aaah Twinkle , I still have some of my Twinkle annuals too. I'm from Tyne & Wear, we used to have the honour of being the largest town in England but then they made us a City. Two famous people from here are Bryan Ferry ( Roxy Music ) and Dave Stewart ( Eurythmics ). We are right on the coast too. Congrats on your 200th post and have a lovely weekend.

Hello Louise! Can it be that I was your lone USA blogger friend in the last survey? I love hearing about your village. I think that's where the word "charm" came from - places like your postcard town. I'm in Southern California where warm conditions can continue right through our "winter"!

Hi Louise
I live in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada. It can get very hot in summer and pretty cold in winter! At this time of year, when our walnut trees have dropped their leaves, I get a good view of the lake and mountains.
I used to live in Jersey (in the Channel Islands). My mum is from there too, and my dad is from Alton in Hampshire.
Is that enough info for you?!

Hi Louise,

I blog from Toronto, Ontario where I have lived since 1997.

Prior to this I lived in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and I grew up in Surrey...although I still consider myself a Yorkshire girl, as my parents are from the county.

Thanks for mentioning my giveaway...I love the heart-shaped card/photo holder and I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Hi Louise! Congratulations on your 200th post!

I was born in Adelaide, South Australia and have lived here for most of my life (Apart from a 5 year stint from the age of 9 when we lived in Brisbane, Queensland.). Adelaide is a city of about 1 million people, but anecdotally it's a small place where everyone knows everyone else! You know the 6 degree thing? (everyone is only 6 degrees away from everyone else) Well in Adelaide it's only 2 or 3 degrees!

I love your heart card holder and I am crossing my fingers too!

A lovely post for your 200th, Louise! Those postcards are a special way to show off village scenes and life. I visited Amberley and the surrounding areas of West Sussex in 2004 and I walked for miles! Just lovely. I was born in Cumbria in the UK, but have lived in Canada for many years, now living on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Your a lady after my own heart! ;)

Hi Louise, Noreen and I both live in the Staffordshire Moorlands. I've been here all my life and was bought up on a farm. Noreen arrived here more recently from Ireland and met and married Brian, a farmer. We both love the local countryside on the edge of the Peak District and our market towns.

The pictures you've shown us are lovely...how nice to have that one with memories of school days.

Hi! I was born in a small town on an island: Vancouver Island. It's larger than GB and has at least 1/50th of the population! My province is British Columbia, the wackiest west coast province in Canada.

Love those historical shots. Gorgeous.

Hi Louise! Congrats on your 200th post! Great job! Time sure flies by doesn't it?

Well, I live in Modesto, California, USA which is located smack dab in the Central Valley. We are 70 miles from San Francisco and the same distance from Sacramento. Our area has a lot of rural farmlands with dairies & orchards that farm almonds, peaches and apricots. Our town is best known as the home of Earnest and Julio Gallo Winery and is also the home town of the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas. Infact my mother went to high school with him and he is also a cousin to my nephew.

I would love to have my name added in for your adorable heart! That is, if it isn't too late.

Happy day to you my friend,
Becky

Hi, Louise, somehow I missed this post! 200, eh, and they've been good ones! I post from SW Florida, where I've lived nearly all my life (I've lived in this very neighborhood since I was 10, only in 3 different houses!)We basically have 2 seasons, summer for 5 or 6 months and spring for all the others! Right now it's finally cool enough to get out and garden! It's in the 60's, sometimes 70's, during the day.

Oh, and I just realized the drawing is to be held November 30th! That's my b'day, so maybe that's lucky, eh?

Hello Louise,

I visit your blog from over in Germany, where I live at the edge of the local woods of Mainz (not far from Frankfurt known for its airport).
I was born in Bath and lived near Scarborough for 3 1/2 years before my parents left England.
Blogland has given me the chance to connect to England, which I miss a lot in my heart and I would love to go back some day.
Do carry on with your wonderful blog!
All the best,
Joanne
