Just being ME

Please say hello ... I love comments!

happy fathers day ...

I love this picture, it is taken from a vintage Ladybird book.

It shows a bright new modern suburban home from I would imagine the 1960s? A perfectly manicured garden, well you can't have the neighbours complaining can you! A perfect child who plays quietly while Mum and Dad are reading the Sunday papers! Mum on one of those camping chairs that if you weren't careful would take your finger off! And Dad relaxing with pipe in hand, all the rage you know! How spending Sunday morning has changed over the years?

I hope all Dads out there are having a great day, including mine!

Thanks Funky Monkey and Country Cottage Chic for reliably informing me you can buy Ladybird prints ready to frame. I had discovered it, but for anyone out there who hasn't, click on the link!

This perfect! It could be my daughter's little family portrait next year! ((Minus the smoking pipe))

My dad used to smoke a pipe and cigars too! My mum used to smoke consulate menthol cigaretes in a diamante encrusted black cigarette holder. Neither of them smoke anymore. How times have changed!!!

This illustration is wonderful!

I'm glad you enjoyed some of my posts about our trip to Ireland, Louise. The Waterford factory tour was fascinating. Their factory retail shop was so full of the most incredible objects. I wish I could have purchased more.

You do know that the illustration is based on daily life in Twiggy Towers don't you - or perhaps not -Mr Twiggy usually wears a smoking jacket to accompany his pipe :)

I feel so blessed that my own life looks exactly like it does in that picture.... Okay, so maybe not. ;) I loved the chair comment. LOL!

Oh yes.. so reminiscent of my own childhood..though just a minute...is that a cravat peeking through Pa's sweater? Maybe not then..
I do remember listening to 'The Goons' after Sunday lunch with my father in tears of hysterical laughter listening to Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan.. Happy days!

What a classic pic! My dad was never one to sit still long enough to read the paper... and still isn't LOL.

That's a photo of us last Sunday! *laughs*
TImes gone by look pretty nice to me. We are in such a hurry to move forward. I wonder how you would depict that family image nowadays! Interesting Louise.

There's not that much change really ~ the man of the house still gets the most comfortable chair!

Of course our Sunday mornings are always like this. I prefer to do a spot of sewing at the same time as cooking the roast, baking the afternoon cake, dead heading the roses, ironing my husbands y fronts and thinking of England! All with a glass of sherry in the other hand of course!
What is that child doing to the bears ears?

I suppose if you had just one child, they might be quiet long enough for the picture to be taken...but I swear I see a look of mischief brewing on that child's face! Sweet illustration, I love those old books.
