Just being ME

Please say hello ... I love comments!

my photo

wish you were here ...

A postcard from Worthing, from me to you.

Just lately, as the weather has been set fair, I've been cycling into work. It's a straightforward route mostly along a seafront cycle path, just over three miles each way.

Remember the 1987 film, Wish You Were Here? Set in austere post-war Britain, this is a high-spirited tale of rebellious teenage girl Lynda, played by Emily Lloyd.

Many scenes were set in Worthing using the seafront, the Dome cinema and a shop in Rowlands Road.

Click here to see a clip of the film. Not only does it show lovely old Southdown buses in the Worthing bus depot, the Worthing outdoor lawn bowling greens, where the English Bowling Association have held the National Championships for over 25 years, it shows Lynda cycling along Worthing seafront just like I do!

Having a lovely time - I shall be next week, I have a week off!

Hello Louise
I remember shingle beaches from when I was a child. We lived in Cosham and would visit rellies in Southsea - hated the stones. Loved to go over to Hayling Island where they had sand (and shells)
Take care
Cathy

I love that photo of the boats. Beautiful! Well, the only thing I know about Worthing comes from tv shows. Judy Dench goes there in "A Fine Romance" and says it's all stones there not sand. And Judy Dench (again!) in "As Time Goes By" talks about age. (just when I think I'm going to be taking a coach to worthing.....) Ahh! Education by television!

Dear Louise, it has been far too long since I have been back to your blog. I'm not sure where or why my haitus took me, but I have missed you and your lovely posts. Apparently I have been away long enough that you have re-entered the work force. I hope the new job is light.

I have missed you. *BIG hugs*

How I envy you riding your bicycle Louise..
I love cycling but last rode a bicycle about 15 years ago...The hills in Bath are not the easiest to negotiate on two wheels..
Beautiful photograph of the boats..

Isn't it beautiful here this week?! Hope you're able to keep cool. I have meaning to try and get hold of a copy of Wish you were Here for a long time, I think my eldest daughter would love to see it. I love seeing footage of Worthing and the Dome. Have a good week

I don't remember this film at all but I know I would enjoy it so didn't watch the whole clip in case it spoilt it for me as I will definitely buy it. Have a lovely week.
